Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance?
Yes! I accept insurance. At this time, accepted insurance plans include: Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Aetna, United/Optum, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Quest Behavioral Health, Carelon Behavioral Health, Providence Health Plan and more.
What if I can’t use my insurance?
I offer private pay at a rate of $150 per 53 minute session. I believe therapy should be accessible. A limited number of sliding scale spots are available based on financial need. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if cost is a concern..
Do you offer virtual therapy in Illinois and Ohio?
Yes! I provide secure, HIPAA compliant virtual therapy for adults located anywhere in Illinois or Ohio. Online therapy offers the flexibility to attend sessions from the comfort of your own home while receiving the same evidence-based care as in person therapy.
What can I expect during my first therapy session?
The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any questions you have. My goal is to create a comfortable, collaborative environment where you feel heard and supported from the very beginning.
What types of therapy do you use?
I tailor therapy to each client's needs using evidence based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Inference Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness, and other trauma-informed approaches. Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, so we'll find what works best for you.
What's the difference between anxiety and OCD?
While both involve worry, anxiety typically centers on realistic concerns that become excessive, whereas OCD involves unwanted intrusive thoughts that lead to compulsions or mental rituals in an attempt to gain certainty or reduce distress. Because the treatment approaches can differ, understanding the underlying pattern is an important part of therapy.
Can therapy help with intrusive thoughts?
Yes. Intrusive thoughts are incredibly common and do not define who you are. Therapy helps you change your relationship with these thoughts so they become less distressing and have less influence over your daily life.
Can therapy help with perfectionism and overthinking?
Absolutely. Perfectionism and overthinking often keep people feeling stuck, second guessing themselves, or avoiding situations altogether. Therapy can help you challenge these patterns, develop greater self compassion, and build confidence in making decisions without needing everything to be perfect.
How long does therapy usually last?
There isn't a one size fits all answer. Some clients come to therapy for a few months to work through a specific concern, while others choose longer term support for ongoing growth and healing. We'll regularly check in on your goals and adjust our work together as your needs evolve.
Do you work with musicians, artists, or other creative professionals?
Yes! As both a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a professional musician, I understand many of the unique challenges creatives face, including perfectionism, performance anxiety, burnout, imposter syndrome, comparison, and balancing passion with everyday life. I love helping creative individuals protect both their mental health and their creativity.
